Summary:
The differential lock can be a very effective way to gain more traction. However its only designed to be used when driving forward in a straight line. Turning can cause undue strain on the driveline, often times 4WD should be used in these circumstances instead. The diff lock pedal inserts a pin into the differential to keep it from slipping. Its best to stop the tractor, engage the diff lock, then continue on. Stomping on this pedal while moving can do damage to the pin and gears.
