Installation Tips

(5 minutes)
Requires a spring puller for installation. You can do it without one, but you will damage the hook on the end of the spring like I did.

You can use a pry bar between the tensioner pulley and the TP mount bracket to release belt tension. Or with a small pry bar or large flat blade screw driver simply roll the belt off the LH spindle pulley. Then after installing new spring, repeat the process. I always find it easier to start the belt and then roll belt back onto the LH spindle pulley by hand most times. Or use a wrench or socket to assist you rotating the pulley clockwise to get the belt back on spindle pulley. Just watch your fingers, don’t get them caught between belt and pulley. Make sure you purchase the correct tension spring. Per your decks serial number.

Watched YouTube video to ensure I would perform things correctly. Then, used a small crowbar to pull the spring since I did not have the proper tool. It wasn't easy, but worked.

Take a two and a half foot long 2x2 board and some heavy fence wire. Then twist a loop in the wire hook it on the spring then tie the wire to the 2x2 board and pry against the side of the deck with the board so that you can have leverage to stretch the spring. Then use a large pair of needle nose pliers to clamp the spring into place and then release the tension on the wire.

Hook the spring, attach a thin lanyard around the spring swing arm and stretch the spring using a bar clamp attached to the deck to allow the belt to be reattached.

It takes 2 people. Hook one end of the spring in the pulley arm, then put a large zip tie around the other end of the spring. Have one person take a large screw driver or any rod through the zip tie and pull until the spring reaches the hook and have the other person push the spring over the hook and you are done.
