Kubota B-Series - Changing Oils and Filters

Kubota B-Series  -  Changing Oils and Filters
(Pictures are of a B7800, concepts apply to other models)
Before performing any of the following operations, be sure that engine is stopped and has been given adequate time to cool down

Changing Engine Oil
  1. Remove drain plug from bottom of the engine while engine is still somewhat warm (allow plenty of time for engine to cool down) to drain oil into oil pan.

  2. Put drain plug back in when oil has drained

  3. Fill with new oil to the higher groove of the dipstick.

Replacing The Engine Oil Filter
  1. Make sure that engine is off and has been given sufficient time to cool down

  2. Remove old oil filter

  3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the rubber seal of the new filter

  4. Tighten filter quickly until it touches the mounting surface

  5. Tighten filter an additional ½ turn

  6. When a new filter is installed, engine oil typically decreases a little. Ensure that oil does not leak through the seal of the filter, then refill oil as needed.

Changing Air Cleaner Primary Element
  1. Remove air cleaner cover by undoing the hook and then rotating the cover clockwise to take it off.

  2. Cleaning the filter:

If filter only contains dust: Blow compressed air (under 30psi, 205kPa, 2.1kgf/cm2) from the inside of the filter to clean it.

If filter contains carbon or oil: Soak filter in detergent for 15 minutes, wash and rinse with water and let it air dry. When filter has completely dried, use a light to check for tears or holes.

3. Reinstall air cleaner cover (make sure that arrows are properly aligned).

Replace air filter yearly, or after every 6th cleaning, whichever comes first.

Also make sure evacuator valve is not blocked.

Evacuator valve should be opened once a week, or daily when used in a dusty place in order to get rid of larger dust particles.

Cleaning Fuel Filter

Make sure that you are in a clean area to do this service and that the fuel tank is less than half full

  1. Loosen and take off filter bowl

  2. Rinse filter bowl with kerosene

  3. Remove filter and dip it in kerosene to rinse

  4. Put filter assembly back together and make sure to keep out dust and dirt

  5. Bleed fuel system <How to Bleed Fuel System>

Changing Transmission Fluid
  1. Allow engine sufficient time to cool down

  2. Remove drain plugs underneath transmission cases and drain oil into oil pan

  3. Put plugs back in after oil has drained

  4. Clean the transmission strainer (see “Cleaning Transmission Strainer” below)

  5. Fill with new Kubota Super UDT up to the upper groove on dipstick

  6. Start engine and let it run for a few minutes

  7. Stop engine, check oil level, and fill as needed

Oil Capacity – 3.83 gallons (14.5 liters)

Do not use tractor right after changing transmission fluid. Run the engine at medium speed for a few minutes prior to use

If you are unable to raise the 3 point hitch by using the hydraulic control lever after long term storage or after changing transmission oil, turn steering wheel to the right and left several times in order to bleed air from system

Cleaning Transmission Strainer
  1. Remove strainer

  2. Completely disassemble strainer

  3. Rinse strainer with nonflammable solvent to clean off filings

  4. Reassemble and install strainer

Replacing Transmission Oil Filters
  1. Take drain plugs (4) out of the bottom of the transmission cases

  2. Drain oil

  3. Put drain plugs back in

  4. Apply a small amount of clean transmission oil to the rubber seal of the new filters

  5. Tighten filter quickly until it touches the mounting surface

  6. Tighten filter an additional ½ turn

  7. Refill transmission oil after filters have been replaced

  8. Run engine for a few minutes, stop engine, and refill transmission oil as needed

  9. Check seals of filters for leaks

There are two transmission filters; both are at the same place on the tractor, one on the left, and one on the right.

Changing Front Axle Case Oil
  1. Park tractor on stable, level surface

  2. Remove right and left drain plug and filling plug

  3. Drain oil

  4. Reinstall drain plugs

  5. Refill oil

  6. Wait ten minutes, then check and refill oil again

  7. Reinstall filling plug

Oil Capacity - 4.7 quarts
