Installation Tips

(30 minutes)
There are no videos on YouTube to aid in installation. To remove old belt, loosen the alternator adjusting screw. Slip fan belt off alternator then off bottom crank pulley. You then have to work the fan belt around the fan blades to totally remove. To install new belt, work back around fan blades. Then loop around crank pulley. On mine, I had to totally remove both alternator bolts, slip new belt around all pulleys. Next insert both alternator bolts, snug lower first, then with my hand, I pulled on the alternator snugging the fan belt. Tighten adjustable bolt on alternator to finish. Belt should have a minimum of 1/4” and a maximum of 3/8” defection per the manual.

Once the mower deck is removed, access to the drive shaft that has to be removed from the crankshaft pulley is attained, the belt slips off from the bottom of the engine and lifts out and around the fan blades. Reversal of the process in that order to re-install it. Also making certain the alternator has been loosened and re-tightened at the last.

Hardest part is working the belt over the fan blades. Clearance between the fan blade tips and shroud is tight.
