Installation Tips

(3 hours)
Not terribly difficult…just tedious. If you are fortunate, the tire rod ends will separate easily so that the ram can be removed from the steering cylinder. In my case, the end of the ram without the flat for attaching a wrench separated first. Since I was replacing the tire rod ends as well, I ended up having to remove the stuck one by tapping the knuckle with an air chisel. Disassembly of the cylinder and installation of the seal kit went fairly smoothly thereafter. I drilled both ends of the cylinder as the service manual recommended to remove the retainer clips . Had to gently chisel out edge of old seals to remove and used a large socket to seat the new seals.

Put in vise. Use a towl .Use a pick and screwdriver to get retaining rings out of each end tap the shaft out with wood and hammer. Take o rings out with pick. Clean inside where o rings go. Make sure u install the same way the collars came out. Not hard just time. Have someone help holding it back on tractor. The angle for the hoses to get on was a little tricky. All in all not hard at all. The seals were definitely bad. The oil just blew through and over the middle o ring. Thanks Messick's. Great prices and fast shipping.

Hardest part is removing lock ring from center cylinder seal in order to replace inner o-ring.
