Before performing any of the following operations, be sure the engine is stopped and has been given adequate time to cool down.
Changing Engine Oil
- Remove drain plug from bottom of the engine while engine is still somewhat warm (allow plenty of time for engine to cool down) to drain oil into oil pan.
- Put drain plug back in when oil has drained.
- Fill with new oil to the higher groove of the dipstick.
Replacing The Engine Oil Filter
- Make sure the engine is off and has been given sufficient time to cool down.
- Remove old oil filter.
- Apply a small amount of engine oil to the rubber seal of the new filter.
- Tighten filter quickly until it touches the mounting surface, then tighten an additional ½ turn.
- Ensure that oil does not leak through the seal of the filter, then refill oil as needed.
Changing Air Cleaner Primary Element
- Remove air cleaner cover by undoing the hook and rotating the cover clockwise to take it off.
- Clean the filter:
- If filter only contains dust: blow compressed air (under 30 psi) from the inside of the filter to clean it.
- If filter contains carbon or oil: soak in detergent for 15 minutes, rinse with water, and let it air dry. Check for tears or holes before reinstalling.
- Reinstall air cleaner cover (make sure arrows are properly aligned).
Replace air filter yearly, or after every 6th cleaning, whichever comes first.
Make sure evacuator valve is not blocked and open weekly (daily in dusty conditions) to remove larger dust particles.
Cleaning Fuel Filter
Make sure you are in a clean area to do this service and that the fuel tank is less than half full.
- Loosen and take off filter bowl.
- Rinse filter bowl with kerosene.
- Remove filter and dip it in kerosene to rinse.
- Put filter assembly back together and keep out dust and dirt.
- Bleed fuel system <How to Bleed Fuel System>
Changing Transmission Fluid
- Remove right and left drain plugs to drain the transmission oil into a pan.
- After draining, reinstall both drain plugs.
- Fill with new oil through the fill port until it reaches the upper groove of the dipstick.
- Run engine briefly, then stop and check oil level again. Add as needed.
Cleaning Transmission Strainer
- Remove suction pipe and strainer assembly.
- Clean strainer with compressed air or non-flammable solvent.
- Check for any damage or clogging; replace if necessary.
- Reinstall and refill transmission fluid if needed.
Replacing Transmission Filters
- Remove both transmission oil filters (there are typically two on each side).
- Apply a thin coat of transmission oil to the new filter seals.
- Install new filters by hand until they contact the base, then tighten ½ turn more.
- Start engine and check for leaks, adding oil if necessary.
Changing Front Axle Case Oil
- Remove drain plugs from the left and right axle cases and the differential case to drain the oil.
- After draining, reinstall all drain plugs securely.
- Refill through the oil fill port until oil level reaches the check plug hole on the side of the case.
- Install check plug and confirm there are no leaks.
