Installation Tips

(3 hours)
I changed out the HST fan from below the tractor with the tractor sitting on its tires. I was able to get a deep socket (13 mm I believe) on the bolt that holds the rear coupling to the HST shaft. With the bolt head pointing straight down I could get 1/4" extension between the tie bar and v shaped protection plate. After loosening that, I took off the two bolts that hold the rear "front" coupling to the rear coupling. I was able to move the shaft out of the way enough to get a balancer puller to extract the rear coupling. A small bar type wheel puller would have been better, and unbolting the front "front" coupling first would have made it easier (read on). I placed a small socket inside the rear coupling center hole for the puller screw to push against. Now to get the new fan on, I struggled for 30 minutes but could not get the clearance needed. I could not move the rear "front" coupling far enough out of the way. So I took the 3 bolts out of the front "front" coupling. That allowed me to push the shaft with the front couplings far enough out of the way to slid the the rear coupling with new fan right onto the HST shaft. Used a hammer to lightly tap that back into place, then installed the front couplings before tightening the rear coupling screw. I could probably swap this out in under an hour now that I know the tricks.

Unbolt the fenders/rops to give movement to allow the floor to be lifted once unbolted. Move the parking brake out of the way to give room to clear the prop shaft. Reassemble in reverse.
