Installation Tips

Diagnosis is key here. Tractor would start but would shut off when returning the key to Run. As others stated, there could be several causes. Mine was a bad solenoid. I removed the solenoid, unplugged it, and tested both incoming voltages. (There are 2 coils in this bugger. One is energized while starting, and the other is energized while running). The tractor will start and run with the solenoid removed. Both tests showed voltage so I was confident that the solenoid was bad. Very straightforward and easy access and installation. Remove the engine enclosure and it's right there on the side of the engine.

I’m afraid my experience with the BX2200D diesel fuel stop solenoid has been mixed and my new solenoid purchase and replacement was not the solution to my problem. The symptom manifested in successful starting and a moment of running before I released the key from “start” to “run”. Learning/realizing the stop solenoid is a dual coil unit, I measured individual coil impedance and surmised the “run” coil was bad. Upon securing a new solenoid, the symptoms were identical. I continued to troubleshoot and despite having a good 20A “run” circuit fuse, the fuse blades were corroded enough to impede the current. A new fuse (with non-corroded blades) solved the problem. Tractor is back to typical reliable operation after 22years.
