I used a motor jack lift to suspend the axle and housing when freeing the old gasket from the tractor. I used a short chain and used fender bolts as attachment points. This keeps the axle and housing balanced during separation. The most time consuming task was removal of the old gasket. I used Permatex gasket remover. Letting it soak overnight helped soften the old gasket.

The only slight difficulty for me in changing the axle housing gasket was at re-assembly. I chose to not remove the axle since my axle seal was good, so the outer housing and axle assembly is fairly heavy. I put one of the upper housing mounting bolts through the housing - opposite of the upper housing dowel side. That let the gasket hang in place while I positioned the housing assembly into place. The difficultly was keeping the axle housing assembly square with the differential case such that the spur gear bearing and dowels start into place. Once started, the spur gear bearing seat in the differential case keeps the assembly square going in. From there I used one-quarter turns on upper and lower outer housing bolts to (gently and slowly) pull it together. I did not use any gasket sealant or the like. Be sure to properly torque per Kubota workshop manual. This repair fixed my pesky hydraulic leak.
