After weaving the belt around the three spindles and idler, take the slack out f the system using a ratchet strap. Keep the spring pulling path clear. I used paracord/ or 5/50 cord looped around the spring end and a long breaker bar levered on the side of the deck to pull the spring. It may take a bit of trial and error to find the best loop length. Once the spring end is over the receiving bracket simply push the spring down to engage the bracket. This is much easier and safer than trying to pull the spring with a pair of vice grips.

You tube videos claim there's no need to take the deck off the mower. My broken belt was so tightly wrapped that I wasted time by not taking the deck off to start with. I finally took the deck off and got the old belt off, But should have done that from the start. It's much easier to just take the deck off. and is no problem to put back on anyway.
