Fairly simple cylinder rebuilds, the snap rings on the end caps are the worse part, once you get them out the rest is easy. The book says to drill a hole at the end of the cylinder to work the snap rings out, but I was able to drive the end cap down into the cylinder and remove the snap ring with 2 picks. I was 2 hours from driving in to driving out. The book says to

Removed mower deck. Drained reservoir and kept oil clean. Put tractor on jackstands. Removed left rear wheel. Thoroughly cleaned shaft and grooves. Used a chisel to start old seal moving. Moved very easy. Pulled old seal and slid new into place. Tapped squarely into housing with a piece of plastic pipe that closely matched seal OD. Added reserved oil to check leaks, and ran tractor and engaged mid pto to leak check while rotating. All good, reversed process to reassemble. Very easy job, probably took more steps than necessary.

I used a pick to get the wire retainers out. Boy where they tough. Be careful when sliding the middle piston retainer wires up and off and not scratch the chrome rod. I lubed the parts with UDT2 oil and assembled. I held the item 040 CAP, END in soft jaws to install the seals in it as its tough to hold and get them in. I was doing my axle and knuckle joint seals at the same time so it took a little longer than just the kit seal. about an hour to repack the cylinder is having the cylinder already pulled from the tractor. Pretty straight forward and easy repack. The most tedious part was removing the snap clips from the end caps. I drilled a small 1/16 (i think, may have been 1/32) hole in the end side of cylinder behind the clip, to stick a pick thru and push the clip out far enough to get a pick behind it to get it out. A bench vise is a huge need/help to do this too. Just watch orientation of old wiper rings in the end caps on removal and put new ones in the same way. Sometimes warming them up makes it a little easier to get them in.
