Use extreme caution when removing gearbox pulley. Definitely use a puller and DO NOT pry against gearbox case. Fortunately I had an old gearbox to practice on and I snapped the shaft keeper ring inside the gearbox. The hardest part about this job is finding or modifying a puller to pull the pulley.

After removing the gear case and flipping it over I was able to remove the lower seal of the mower bevel gear case by drilling 2 opposing holes in the seal metal ring and inserting screws to pry the seal out without disassembling the complete gear box. Once removed I used a magnet to sweep the gear box for any drill shavings, which there were none, as I used the magnet as I drilled. Once removed I lubed the new seal and tapped it in place and refilled with 90W gear lube. Did a 2 hr mowing job and no leak and the temperature of the box was 135 degrees F.
