Installation Tips

(30 minutes)
I did not take the tire off of the tractor. I was able to get my hand in along the side and back of the tractor to install the part. My hand is small though. I did have to bend the switch a little in order for it to roll correctly into the slots as I moved the safety lever. Works great now.

We decided to attempt replacement without removing the wheel. We estimated the wheel weighed several hundred pounds and would have taken special equipment to remove and remount. We reached in from behind the tractor, removed the bracket from the frame, marked the switch's position on it, and were then able to remount the new switch precisely as the old one had been mounted. After we replaced the bracket on the frame, we watched the movement of the switch on the cams to decide how to fine-tune the bracket mounting position. Once we were satisfied, we tightened the bracket onto the frame. This process worked great when complete.

Simple installation. The toughest part was removing my left rear tire, which is filled, so very heavy. IF you can handle that, the rest is a breeze. • Jack up and Remove left rear tire, • Remove 2 screws holding the switch in place • Unplug connector (lift release latch on connector) • Plug in new switch, making sure the latch on the connector engages. • Mount switch on bracket with 2 screws and lock washers. • Adjust location of switch so that the two "teeth" on the actuator arm depress the switch when in neutral, and release it when in gear. (I tested with gear in neutral and clutch depressed to make sure it was functioning properly.) • Reinstall wheel, torquing bolts to the specified 125 ft-lbs. • Remember to recheck the wheel bolt torque after a few hours of use.
