Kubota BX-Series 50 Hr Service

Servicing Your BX-Series Tractor (Oils, Filters, Etc.)

Whenever you are doing any kind of service make sure that engine is stopped.

Changing the Oil:

  1. Remove drain plug from bottom of the engine while engine is still somewhat warm (allow plenty of time for engine to cool down) to drain oil into oil pan.

  2. Put drain plug back in when oil has drained

  3. Fill with new oil to the higher groove of the dipstick.

Oil Capacity – 3.3 quarts (3.1 liters)

Cleaning the Air Filter:
  1. Remove air cleaner cover by undoing the hook and then rotating the cover clockwise to take it off.

  2. Cleaning the filter:

-If filter only contains dust: Blow compressed air (under 30psi, 205kPa, 2.1kgf/cm2) from the inside of the filter to clean it.

-If filter contains carbon or oil: Soak filter in detergent for 15 minutes, wash and    rinse with water and let it air dry. When filter has completely dried, use a light to check for damage.

  3. Reinstall air cleaner cover (make sure that arrows are properly aligned).

Replace air filter yearly, or after every 6th cleaning, whichever comes first.

Also make sure evacuator valve is not blocked.

Evacuator valve should be opened once a week, or daily when used in a dusty place in order to get rid of larger dust particles.

Checking Fuel Lines and Fuel Filter

Before inspection: Make sure that a clean plug is inserted into the fuel line when it is disconnected so dirt does not get into the fuel line.

  1. Inspect fuel lines and pipe clamps for damage or deterioration. Replace them if damaged.

  2. Check to see if fuel filter either is clogged, or contains water. If either is true replace it.

Note: Check fuel lines annually or after every 100 hours of use, whichever comes first.

If you are removing the fuel line, make sure to bleed the system. (How to bleed fuel system)

Changing the Oil Filter

  1. Make sure that engine is off and has been given sufficient time to cool down.

  2. Remove old oil filter.

  3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the rubber seal of the new filter.

  4. Tighten filter quickly until it touches the mounting surface.

  5. Tighten filter an additional ½ turn.

  6. When a new filter is installed, engine oil typically decreases a little. Ensure that oil does not leak through the seal of the filter, then refill oil.

Changing Front Axle Case Oil

  1. Make sure that tractor is on a firm and level surface

  2. Take out right and left drain plugs and oil gauge at the front axel case and drain oil

  3. Put drain plugs back in

  4. Take out right and left breather plugs

  5. Fill up to upper groove on dipstick with new oil. Kubota Super UDT or 80 weight gear oil is recomended.

  6. Wait 10 minutes, check level again, and add oil as needed

  7. Put breather plugs back in

Changing Transmission Fluid

  1. Allow engine sufficient time to cool down

  2. Remove drain plug underneath transmission case and drain oil into oil pan

  3. Put plug back in after oil has drained

  4. Clean the transmission strainer (see “Cleaning Transmission Strainer” below)

  5. Fill with new Kubota Super UDT up to the upper groove on dipstick

  6. Start engine and let it run for a few minutes

  7. Stop engine, check oil level, and fill as needed

BX Oil Capacity – 3.1 gallons (11.6 liters)

Note: Do not use tractor right after changing transmission fluid. Run the engine at medium speed for a few minutes prior to use and check oil level again.

Cleaning Transmission Strainer

  1. Remove strainer

  2. Completely disassemble strainer

  3. Rinse strainer with nonflammable solvent to clean off filings

  4. Reassemble and install strainer

The strainer is a metal screen that picks up metal filings before they enter the hydrostatic pump.

Replacing Transmission Oil (Hydraulic) Filter
  1. Make sure that engine is off and has been given sufficient time to cool down.

  2. Remove old transmission filter.

  3. Apply a small amount of clean transmission oil to the rubber seal of the new filter.

  4. Tighten filter quickly until it touches the mounting surface.

  5. Tighten filter an additional ½ turn.

  6. When a new filter is installed, transmission fluid level typically decreases a little. Ensure that fluid does not leak through the seal of the filter, then refill fluid.
