Snapper: A Short Brand History
Snapper’s roots trace back to Southern Saw Works, which evolved into McDonough Power Equipment in Georgia. In 1951 the company launched the “Snappin’ Turtle,” widely credited as the first self-propelled rotary lawn mower, establishing Snapper as a leader in residential mowing and later the iconic rear-engine rider.
Growth accelerated under Fuqua Industries (late 1960s–1990s). In 2002 Snapper was acquired by Simplicity Manufacturing, and in 2004 it became part of Briggs & Stratton via Simplicity’s acquisition. Following Briggs & Stratton’s 2020 restructuring and sale to KPS Capital Partners, Snapper continued under the Briggs & Stratton umbrella. Recent moves adjusted North American product lines while the brand remained active in EMEA; in 2024 Daye North America licensed the Snapper brand for select products.
