Instead of pulling the steering wheel and dash off, I ground 3/32” off the threaded end. This allowed the lever to go in without the severe angle required to pivot the entire threaded end into the retaining hole. Even with the shorter length there are several threads beyond the jam nut.
It was also easier to keep all the washers in order they were removed than it was to find an exploded diagram online. Not knowing my tractors history, I’d wanted to confirm the order.

Pay attention to the sequence of the spacer/washers on the shaft when you remove the old lever. I put a little axel grease on the shaft where it meets the bracket and don’t tighten too tight. I went a little loose just to get the feel of it and ensure that it stayed where I wanted it when throttling it up. I was a little too loose first try, but it was a good test. Second attempt worked out great.
