The first engine oil change on a new BX is due at 50 hours. After that, change the oil every 200 hours or once a year, whichever comes first. Change the engine oil filter at the same time; the capacities below include the filter.
| Interval | First at 50 hours, then every 200 hours or 1 year |
|---|---|
| Time | 30 minutes, including the filter |
| Tools | Wrench for the drain plug, drain pan, funnel, rag |

Capacity and oil specification
| Model | Capacity with filter | Oil to buy |
|---|---|---|
| BX1880 | 3.0 L (3.2 U.S. qt.) | 1 gallon |
| BX2380 | 3.3 L (3.5 U.S. qt.) | 1 gallon |
| BX2680 | 4.0 L (4.2 U.S. qt.) | 1 gallon and 1 quart |
| Ambient temperature | Viscosity |
|---|---|
| Above 25 °C (77 °F) | SAE 30, SAE 10W-30 or 15W-40 |
| −10 to 25 °C (14 to 77 °F) | SAE 20, SAE 10W-30 or 15W-40 |
| Below −10 °C (14 °F) | SAE 10W-30 |
Use oil with an API service classification of CF, CF-4, CG-4, CH-4 or CI-4. CJ-4 oil is for engines with a diesel particulate filter and is not approved for these tractors. Kubota 10W-30 covers the full temperature range above.
If you switch to oil of a different brand or viscosity, drain all of the old oil and replace the filter. Do not mix two different engine oils.

Draining the oil
- Park on firm, level ground, set the parking brake, stop the engine and remove the key.
- Place a drain pan under the engine oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine.
- Remove the oil fill cap. Venting the crankcase lets the oil drain faster.
- Remove the drain plug and let the oil drain completely.
- Wipe the drain plug clean and reinstall it.
- Replace the oil filter now. See engine oil filter replacement.
Filling and checking the level
- Add new oil through the oil fill opening. Start with about half a quart less than the capacity above.
- Reinstall the fill cap. Start the engine and let it idle for a minute while you check the drain plug and filter for leaks.
- Stop the engine and wait at least 5 minutes for the oil to drain back to the pan.
- Pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, push it fully back in, and pull it out again.
- The oil level must be between the two notches on the dipstick. Add oil a little at a time until it reaches the upper notch. Do not overfill.
- Take the used oil and filter to a recycling center or a shop that accepts used oil.
Daily oil level check
Check the oil level before starting the engine each day, or at least 5 minutes after stopping it, with the tractor on level ground. Use the same dipstick procedure as above. If the level is below the lower notch, do not run the engine until oil has been added.
