Three front snowblowers fit the BX80 series on the BX2810 front hitch: the BX2816 50-inch, the BX2830 48-inch and the BX2822A 55-inch commercial. All three have the same hardware, auger and gearbox checks. The BX2816 is driven through a chain that needs lubrication and adjustment. The BX2830 and BX2822A have a reduction box instead of a chain, and auger bearings that need grease.
| Interval | Lubricate the BX2816 chain every 4 hours. Grease augers and bearings every 24 hours. Check gearbox oil monthly. |
|---|---|
| Time | 15 minutes |
| Tools | Grease gun, chain lube, wrenches |
| Gear oil | SAE 80W-90, AGMA 5EP extreme pressure |
If the snowblower is used less than 20 hours a year, do all of the maintenance at least once a year, after each storage period and after each wash. Run the snowblower for a few minutes after use to throw out loose snow so the auger and fan do not freeze in place.
Mounting the snowblower on the front quick hitch is shown in our video:

| Gearbox | Monthly | Check oil level | All |

| Gearbox and reduction box oil | Once a year | Change | BX2830, BX2822A |
Lubrication
Gearbox oil
Check the level by removing the oil level plug. The oil should be even with the bottom of the hole. If it is low, remove the filler plug and add SAE 80W-90 gear oil until oil runs out of the level hole, then reinstall both plugs.
On the BX2830 and BX2822A, change the gearbox and reduction box oil once a year. Remove the filler plug, then remove the drain plug and let the oil run until it is only dripping. Reinstall the drain plug, remove the level plug and fill until oil reaches the level hole. On the reduction box, drain from the lower plug.
If the gearbox or reduction box is opened for repair, seal the case with silicone and let it cure for 24 hours before filling with oil.
Drive chain, BX2816
Adjust the chain after the first 8 hours and every 24 hours after that.
- Remove the driveline guard.
- Loosen the four bolts that hold the reduction box to the snowblower.
- Move the reduction box until the chain deflects 1/16 to 1/8 in. at the midpoint.
- Tighten the four bolts and reinstall the driveline guard.
Measure the distance between the sprocket centers. If it is more than 4-1/8 in., the chain is stretched. Replace it with 70060-01275, or the snowblower will not connect properly to the hitch and the drive will wear quickly.
Shear bolts
The fan and each auger section are held by shear bolts that break before the gearbox or auger does. Use only the correct shear bolts: 70060-01338 for the augers on all three models, the 77700-11443 kit for the BX2816 fan and 77700-04339 for the BX2830 fan. A standard bolt will not break and lets an overload damage the drive. Check the shear bolts often for tightness. On the BX2816, torque them to 9 ft-lbs.
After replacing a broken auger shear bolt, position the two augers 180 degrees from each other as shown.
Hydraulic chute rotation, BX2830 and BX2822A
If the chute turns slowly or only one way, first check the tractor valve by connecting another implement. Then remove the motor gear and turn the chute by hand to check for binding or debris. If the chute turns freely by hand, the flow restrictors in the motor fittings are probably plugged. Relieve the hydraulic pressure, disconnect the hoses, remove the fittings and blow out the restrictors with compressed air. Cap the hoses and couplers while they are disconnected.
Storage
Clean the snowblower and subframe, make any repairs, replace damaged decals, touch up worn paint and lubricate it. When it is dry, oil all moving parts and store it in a dry place.
